Wondering if your child might be eligible for special services? Begin your journey by reaching out to the director of special education or your school’s psychologist with a thoughtful email. This email is your chance to present a strong case – akin to applying for a scholarship – on why you believe your child deserves these services. If you have relevant diagnoses or previous tests, including them can be beneficial. Once your request is in, the school has 60 days to carry out their evaluation and determine eligibility. Following this, they’ll take another 30 days to draft the IEP. During this window, you can explore service providers listed on the ODE website by county. And for a detailed breakdown of each step, don’t miss our guide: “Navigating the Jon Peterson Scholarship for Ohio Homeschoolers,” available in the above section.
